The Fool: Planet (Astrology)
Posted By Jade on May 15, 2009
The Fool’s planet is Uranus.
Uranus is the distruptor. It breaks us out of ruts and sets us on new paths and new ideas, whether we want it to or not. It’s influence raises our consciousness. It symbolizes radical thoughts, ideas, and the need to be unique, to shock and surprise. Negatively aspected, it can be reckless and catastrophic.
I’ve started a list of famous “Fools” from media and fiction. While you could make a good case for nearly any story hero being the Fool, there are a few that, to me, embody the Fool better than others:
- Neo (The Matrix)
- Alice (Alice in Wonderland)
- Dorothy (The Wizard of Oz) — who even has a small dog to warn her of dangers
- Rusty (Into the Wild from the Warriors series by Erin Hunter)
- Lucy (The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe from Narnia)
- Luke Skywalker (Star Wars)
- Bilbo Baggins (The Hobbit)
Like the Fool, all of these heros are young (with the possible exception of Bilbo) and all of them leave behind the safe and familiar for a world they, in the beginning, can’t comprehend. Many of them involve some form of journey into an alternate world or state of reality. Which got me thinking: for years, I’ve read The Fool card as a youth who (for one reason or another) avoids falling off of a cliff. But perhaps falling off the cliff is exactly what the Fool is supposed to do. Perhaps he needs to fall off the cliff, like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole, to begin his journey.

If you’ll recall, Bilbo was definitely young by hobbit standards, if not by human.
Enjoying these immensely. Thank you.
