The High Priestess’ alchemical association: silver
Silver - Once known as argentum, silver is one of the seven sacred metals of alchemy (the others being: gold, iron, tin, lead, mercury, copper) and is one of the three base metals used at the beginning of an alchemical work. Associated with the moon, silver is tied with things flexible, creative, emotionally aware, and female. In his writing, Edward Kelly claims “…silver is everywhere called by the Sages the perfect female body.”1 It is a symbol of trust, truth, wisdom and love.
The glyph for the moon is also used as a symbol for silver in alchemy. Some key words associated with silver are: purity, clarity, femininity, awareness, focus, purpose, intent, vision. It’s associated with the alchemical process of distillation.
