The High Priestess: Enochian Letter and Hebrew Letter

Enochian Letter
The High Priestess’ Enochian letter: Ceph.
Enochian is proving a tough nut to crack. I’m now in the middle of reading the Golden Dawn’s take on it, since they’re the ones that made the correspondence. When I’ve got an handle on it, I’ll do a whole post on just the relationship between Enochian letters and the tarot trumps.
Golden Dawn Hebrew Letter
Gimel
English letter equivalent: G
Meaning: camel
Astrological Correspondence: The Moon
Symbolic Meaning: camel, bridge, benevolence, pride, to lift up
As the camel, Gimel brings the traveler from one place to another, in particular, the journey of a soul between the Divine realm and physical realm. Gimel also represents consequences, the giving of punishment or reward, as deserved. Picture a rich man running after a poor man to give charity and you have the essence of Gimel.
Elphas Levi Correspondence: Aleph
Levi (and the magickal systems derived from his teachings) assign the letter Beth to The Magician, giving Gimel to the Empress.
Beth
English letter equivalent: B
Meaning: house (container)
Astrological Correspondence: Mercury
Symbolic Meaning: household, in, into
This correspondence, attributed by the Golden Dawn, is the most widely used. The usual translation of Beth is “house”, a term that also corresponds to “temple” and “container” and to “gnosis” (knowledge). Beth takes the boundless potential of Aleph and contains it, gives it a structure that allows us to relate to and use that potential. It’s important to note here that Beth doesn’t correspond to any specific container, it corresponds to the idea of containing. As the first letter of the first word of the Torah, Beth is the beginning of the powers of creation made manifest in the world.
My Attribution
Either Gimel or Beth could apply to the High Priestess, but I’ll use the Gimel correspondence. The High Priestess sets us on our journey from our physical realm to the Other/Divine/Subconscious realm.
